Quantitative Resource Center Handbook on Tutoring Virtually
I created this guide for incoming Quantitative Resource Center (QRC) tutors at Carleton College in 2020. At that time, the QRC was a new center for students to receive help with quantitative reasoning skills in STEM courses. I was tasked with creating training resources for the QRC’s inaugural group of tutors, who started (virtually!) in the Fall 2020 semester.
Zoom was to be the primary medium of instruction at the QRC, but because this was the summer of 2020, using Zoom was still relatively new to many students. This handbook is tailored to the unique needs of my college’s tutors. It goes through how to create and record appointments, procedures for drop-in sessions, and how to use Google Calendar and Slack in conjunction with Zoom to create a streamlined learning experience for students.
